Humming Bird Haven
/Migration Season for Hummingbirds has arrived. Our our little area of North Carolina we are directly in the Ruby-Throated’s path making it a perfect opportunity to interact with they tiny marvels. Weymouth Woods, a local nature preserve allows visitors an up close and personal interaction. One of only two trained hummingbird banders, this lovely lady is filled with incredible knowledge on everything hummingbird from feeders to migration patterns and how to identify juvenile to adult birds.
Our three kids were lucky enough to witness a demonstration of the tagging and banding process and each got to release a “winged Jewel”. This FREE event was as enchanting as it was educational. The kids and I highly recommend attending a local even near you. Make sure to go early, the hummingbirds were more active before 10:00am.
Afterwards we took a stroll along the trails to explore more tiny marvels. Weymouth Woods also has the best interactive discovery room for kids. A giant stage of puppets, an underground tunnel and unit boxes of discovery, your kids will fill the morning with memories.
