The Bitmoji Classroom-Is it Worth It?

IMG_0564.jpg

The Bitmoji Classroom is popping up on many educators classroom feeds.

  • Is it worth it?

  • Should you have a Bitmoji Classroom?

  • Do you have to be tech savvy to create one?

Let’s investigate and see if a Bitmoji Class is right for you! Two incredibly fun afternoons were spent, first designing and developing my Bitmoji Classroom and then my Bitmoji work space. Was it fun? YES!!! Did I spend WAY to much time creating it, umm, I’ll be honest, YES! But, only with the first one. Once I got the hang of creating it, my workspace took a lot less time since I had the template ready to go.

With classrooms going virtual, this classroom is an eye catching way to bring in the younger audience! Think of it like an interactive power-point slide. This particular classroom uses Google Slides to create a digital backdrop while inserting a Bitmoji character that many have already crated through their Snapchat. Link the two together and you can have a mini-me, like size persona to interact with your class. With the option to link YouTube Videos, helpful links and featured topics, this virtual classroom is a unique tool to use with your students. It will never take the place of your in-person classroom but it gives you a resource. Plus, what kid doesn’t like clicking on objects to learn more?

Here’s my first classroom! Imagine how helpful this will be to provide links for your students, parents and even other educators.

Welcome Friends!

Or Take this one step further and imagine the creativity you could use with a Bitmoji Workspace? An interactive spa, a creative writing desk, a fun tool to assess student learning? Accountability in a fun and creative way, Google Slides has wonderful potential. There are a ton of possibilities!!

So how did I go about creating my space? Make sure you have added Bitmoji into the hot-bar extension at the top of your google. Then head over to Google Slides and create a blank document. Click on Background and type in options for wall or floors ( you can also search the web for more options). Now use the insert tab to add more objects. Hint: If you use the word “transparent” in your search, it helps to limit the objects to ones without background. One your items are inserted, you can add text, voice, link videos or make objects move to capture attention. To add your Bitmoji, click on the extension in the hot bar and search for the one you’d like to use.

Do you have to be tech savvy to create? Yes, you do have to have some knowledge but don’t let that hold you back. Ask for help to get you going. Once you start your creation, I promise it will get easier. Do I think it’s worth it? YES!! Does it take some time to create, YES!! But it’s sooo worth it!!

Please let me now what questions you have!! How can I help you get going?
